Sessain is the name given to a great land, for the Higher Spirit Sessen whom it was favored by. In the past, it was a great kingdom, and no evil dared to tread upon it, for they would easily be forced out by the combined forces of the powerful beings who inhabited it. The Higher Spirits all soon took an interest in the place... And that was when the trouble started.
When Sessen retired to the Higher Lands that were her home, she left Sessain to the supervision of her three children. Keysanaru and Exena'ar were the older twins, the first being Higher Spirit of Light and the other the Higher Spirit of Darkness. Cenryeth, the younger, was Higher Spirit of Wild (wild is Fire, Earth, Wind, and Water). But division was soon unavoidable as the three struggled to become the single ruler of the land...
Mostly, the people were divided as following either Keysanaru or Exena'ar - Dark or Light. Only a small handful of people followed Cenryeth. Soon, Sessain was overrun by war. Chaos and fighting reigned, and soon Cenryeth fled, taking his followers to an island called Quesnayan just off the coast of the mainland. Along the way, he broke the Higher Laws and used his powers to protect them from the followers of his brothers. This began what was called the Breaking - where the Higher Spirits began to ignore their Laws and used their powers.
All three of the Higher Spirits created temples in their honor, sacred areas where they could travel to and from the Higher Lands and Sessain. An awkward sort of peace set in, the formerly great land settling into separate pieces...
And then an even greater threat set in. A neighboring kingdom - Genxir - has been gaining extreme power, ruled by an evil master of sorcery known only as 'The Shadow Lord'. Ruling with an iron fist, he planted a small gem into anyone he conquered - which he could use to cause pain to or kill the bearer, using only the power of his own mind. Naturally, in due time, he set greedy eyes upon the broken kingdom of Sessain…
Aware of the threat, the people of the land began flocking to Spyryt'ir (explained elsewhere), seeking to be granted magical powers by the powerful Spyryts...
